Recent incidents involving powerlines have highlighted a serious danger that some tree workers and homeowners might overlook: working too close to live wires can be fatal.
Following a recent fatal accident, where a tree worker was electrocuted while conducting tree work near high-voltage power lines in Maida Vale, the importance of powerline safety has never been greater.
Jason St Martin is the Electrical Inspection Manager at the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS).
“The most obvious issue that stands out in all of the recent major incidents involving vegetation control work is that the injured or deceased persons did not appear to have the qualifications required under law to carry out vegetation control work inside the danger zone around powerlines,” Jason St Martin said.
Western Power has been an ArbWest Corporate Partner for a number of years and their safety notices come with the recommendation to contact ArbWest in order to find a qualified and recommended powerline certified arborist.
